Bradford L. Rigby
Senior Consultant and Actuary
Brad is a senior consultant and actuary in Cowden Associates’ retirement practice. His primary work involves multiemployer plans and government entities, providing valuation, consulting and administrative services.
Brad joined Cowden in 2010 after previously working for a regional benefits consulting firm in Cleveland, Ohio for nearly 10 years. His career has led him across countless plan designs and retiree benefit programs of all types, performing plan design studies, cost projections of both funding and accounting expense, government reporting, and pension administration. He has extensive experience working with both corporate and not-for-profit organizations on qualified single employer plans, nonqualified executive plans, retiree medical plans, and multiemployer and multiple-employer arrangements. Brad’s focus as an actuary is not just in providing accurate results, but also in the detailed consulting that helps his clients to understand the situations surrounding their benefit programs, so that their employee benefit programs are able to achieve the desired result.
Brad has significant experience with frozen pension plans, working with the plan sponsor and the plan’s investment advisor to develop an appropriate strategy that allows for a plan termination in desired and manageable timeframes. Such studies have ranged in complexity, utilizing such techniques as stochastic forecasting in the asset and liability projections. A recent project analyzed the factors affecting a plan’s underfunding on a termination basis so the client could see how various demographic, economic and other forces have an impact on the cost of termination.
Brad has spoken at American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (ASPPA) and Worldwide Employee Benefits Network (WEB) conferences. He has also led Continuing Education sessions on pension plans for several accounting firms and investment advisory groups.
Brad is an Enrolled Actuary (EA), an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA), and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). He is currently in the process of completing his fellowship with the Society of Actuaries. Brad is a graduate of Grove City College.
